Cat proofing my flowers

I posted this on 2 of my blogs because, you know, this is such an urgent matter ;-). My cat eats every real flower I bring in the house. .....and then of course pukes it up everywhere. I tried putting the flowers in and out of the frig...But my family did not like the mess in the frig. ...or the lack of space. I am trying this idea for small arrangements---I can put them in the glass over night, or when leaving the house or whatever and they should be safe from that evil 4 footed flower munching guy.

Tablescape 2

This is for Tablescape Thursday this will start tomorrow-September 3 -I am posting this a bit early

This is a little nook I like to eat at in the fall and winter. It is nice to sit by a fireplace. We have a split level and below this room is a gas run fire place and the warmth just rises to penetrate this area. I threw this setting together in a fast quickie so excuse the lack of better organization!

Photobucket Don't look to closely at the things on the mantel--I didn't adjust them after our 1 year old grandson left (he was into everything and we had to move things!) The tablecloth is an old one that used to be my mother's. Oh and sorry about the imbalanced look on the teacup shelf--I was using the teapot that goes to the right of the clock. This is what happens when you quickly grab the camera for a spur of the moment photo shoot---yikers!

Photobucket I know the plastic placemats are not the grooviest ;-) but we were having a marinara dish and I always resort to plastic when having tomato dishes with my son present! (any advice on this?)

Photobucket
I love these dishes--I used them tonight for salad. I found these on Ebay.
Photobucket The hummel is an old one of my Mother-in-laws and it went through a house fire so it is not in the best of conditions--but I like it and associate memories with it. The flowers which are thrown in here are from my garden---but my cat eats them if I turn my back for one second (literally) ;-(

Photobucket We did eat by candlelight and my hubby enjoys this as do we all.

Photobucket

Yup--I didn't iron the tablecloth---HEY this was literally thrown together in ten minutes so give me a break Ya'll. Ok , so this is NOT elegant...but at least it is cosy, right?

Ps. I was commenting on some of your blogs about why I couldn't link directly to my particular blog through your comment section while with others I could. I finally figured it out. In the settings for your comments you have to set it for anyone

Fall nesting??? And give away

Photobucket
Some bloggers have been talking about fall nesting. When fall is in the air I move furniture---I uprighted this bookcase to creat a cozier reading nook for me (yaah I know it is a cheapo bookcase but it has memories). Notice I am reading a book (see couch), have my apple glass coffee cup and candles. My flip flops are off for relaxed reading. Hmm is that a monkey on the edge of the couch---yup.....and pooh bear toys in the basket. Part of nesting is memories.
(Fall give away link is at bottom of this post)
Photobucket

I love this rug from turkey--bright fallish colors.
Photobucket

We bring out the ole checker board---something about fall and board games, ya know?

Photobucket

I moved the sofas outwards in this room---now it was cozier perhaps having them in a more conversational closeness, but we enjoy the fire in the fall and winter of the little stove in the left background. It throws some nice heat and ambiance .....so that is my excuse ;-) Sorry about the shades being down--doesn't look as good this way...but hey--I have other things to do!! for a daytime view of the window go Here.

Photobucket
We got out our cheapo chess set (my youngest son plays with hubby)---we had a nicer one handcrafted in the mountains, but alas our cat and kids wrecked too many pieces. I think I gave the heavy board to Good Will at some point.

Photbucket
I love the smell of a pipe and pipe tobacco. My hubby used to smoke one about 3 times a year--I pulled it out for the atmosphere and I still can sniff the tobacco (as in sniff to smell, ha!)
Photobucket
Lastly ..in my fall cleaning (just starting) I found the ole mixer and cleaned it up and decided to leave it out for a while. ...the fruit, wine, and jar of roasted chickpeas make me think of fall things too ...So anyways --

One of the blogs is offering a 200 dollar spree at Home Goods for fall decor---I probably won't take them up because they might want to see a transformation after shopping!

For the Fall give away go here: The Inspired Room But hurry--it may only last a very short time!

Indirect lighting?

Photobucket

We have this string of lighting that runs atop of the molding in our sitting room (and other rooms as well)---the picture does not do it justice. It helps especially with the rooms that don't get enough sunlight---it adds soft light and homeyness (which you can't tell by the pic!) NOTICE THE SPINDLES, ET HEMMMMM

It isn't called spindle cottage for no reason!! Even our chairs have spindles! This is not a stylish home--it is a crooked old cottage .
