A few touches of Christmas while waiting on the MOVE

Photobucket
Above is a few of a front room---I thought it was kind of cool looking through the lace divider.

A sprinkling of berries above and below. We have a popcorn (Chinese Talo spelling?) tree--it has these white popcorn like things this time of the year. I have placed some in the wreath.

And lastly lots of nice warm fires in front of my new old coffee table. It was 18 degrees here in SC---which translates to cold in our old homes made for the warm weather!!

I have a question---I am trying to decide on wall colors for the condo that we may be moving to later this month. I am having a very hard deciding. First of all it has to go with my furniture, and secondly I need to feel warm and cozy, but I am kindof getting sick of yellows. I was thinking of airy blues and greens, but I don't know if I could live without the warmth of yellows. How do you all make up your minds???????? Should I paint large areas and see? It seems like a waste of time and money, but then perhaps not! If I should paint and not like it then that would be more time and money.

  1. I have a suggestion why not builders khaki? If you are movin soon you may wanna go with neutrals.(just a thought) Anxious to see what you decide.Oh have I told you I love the shelves in your dining area (oh how I wish...)!

  2. I was thinking along the same line as Comeca, builders beige or creamy white. How soon are you moving?
You Christmas touches are very pretty, I love berries and real greenery at this time of year.

  3. Oh, it's so hard to see books on your table and not read the titles. :-) I'm not good with colors. I admire you for decorating even though you will be moving.

  5. It was cold here this morning. My friends and I went for a walk and it was 14 degrees in my part of SC. Well as far as color, I am a yellow gal. I do like some greens too....has to be the right one though. Good luck, keep us posted.

  6. You could go with warm antique whites or very pale browns/tans etc.

  9. Love your decor, I like to come and read your posts. About color, I agree with the previous bloggers' comments, the brown family is very warm, just like you I DO love yellow, maybe you can keep it present in trows, blankets, quilts, etc., etc. Good luck.

  10. Don't think I can help you much with the colours, Kim as I'm a white lover and I find a white background so easy to add any colour you like with furniture, throws, drapes and the rest.

I do have an idea though: why don't you select a couple of colours and then ask your son to make sketches of your new rooms including your chosen colours and some of the furniture? It doesn't have to be a work of art, just sketches to give you an idea of what the different colours would look like.

    Hope this helps, Kim!

  11. Looking through that lace is magical.I would like to see more of that.Your home looks so cozy, I love it.When ever I have painted my houses I like to get a whole bunch of those free little cards with paint on them,I can't remember what you call them.Home Depot type stores don't care how many you take.I just keep them around me until I decide.

  12. I love blues and greens and they can be warmed up - just depends on the shade. I'm a cool girl myself and painted my rooms in shades of silvery gray. It's warmed up by the wood floors (almost done) and mushroom coloured couch.
Your wreath is so delicate and pretty - and I do envy the glass door knobs. My grandmother's house had them.

  15. I love your wreath! The white berries are so pretty in it.

Lately I've been really fond of sage green or "Army" green. I think it's warm and cozy in the winter and cool in the summer. I hope you figure it out! :0)

It will be sad for you to leave Spindle Cottage, it is such a lovely home, but I know you will make your new place beautiful too!

  16. I love your decor! Where are you moving to? If you enjoy yellow so much...incorporate dove grey, light blue, off white and perhaps some lavender....they look very pretty together...

    have a great weekend.

  17. Those are lovely Christmas touches!

I'm the wrong person to ask because every place I've lived I've always painted it some shade of yellow LOL! I did paint my family room a sort of cafe aulait color and like it a lot. So perhaps look at chips in those colorways. I find it impossible to paint without testing the colors on the wall first because light plays such an important part. Most places now have little tester you can buy instead of the quarts (I use them for paint projects so they don't get wasted).

    Have a wonderful Christmas!

  18. If you're sick of yellow, I say try something else! The worst thing that can happen is that you miss your yellow and decide to repaint. So many paint lines offer the little testers now and it's definitely worth buying one in the paint color(s) you're considering to test it out. I always paint a large poster board in the color(s) that I'm considering and put it in the room for a few days. I move it around to different walls and also see how the color changes in the changing light throughout the day. I never paint without doing that first - definitely worth the time and the few dollars it costs.
