Metamorphosis Monday

FOR OCTOBER 26

It is Metamorphosis aT Susan's and I wanted to show a transformation we did a while back. I don't have the before Picture so I will tell you about" the before". In our "sun room" we had a yucky gray indoor-outdoor carpet that was in the room when we moved in to this house. We never had the money to do anything about it. One day my hubby and I got talking and we realized that under the rug was old tiling. I thought that this might be better than the rug. So one day when I could take it no longer I started ripping. WELL, to make a long story shorter, the tiles were horrible!!! SO NOW WhAT do I do. I ripped out the tiles and was left with all this goooooooy glue junk. I purchased stuff that was supposed to remove the glue and started on a section....over by the bay window area. I was hoping it would look like slate!!! THEN I realized WAIT---perhaps if we just put polyeurathane over what was there it would look like ceramic tiles!! The tiles had left an imprint from where they had been so it looked tile-ish! ANd the swirls of yellow glue etc looked like some tiles I had seen. So here is the result:

The only problem is the first coat took over a week to dry!!!! WE were very worried...maybe it would never dry....a reaction of glue and polyeurathane. But it did dry and the next coat didn't take as long. By the way there was a huge crack we had to fill in and paint to match that hides beneath a rug--it still came out pretty well.

Here is another picture of it that I took last month--you may have seen this one:

  1. You are kidding? That isn't really tile? You can't tell at all. You were probably lucky that the fumes didn't kill you...but, it really turned out nicely.

  13. Kim,
I just used my glue gun with the high temp glue sticks,so far, so good. If that doesn't hold I will go to my E6000 glue. Thanks for asking and for visiting.

  18. I think the town your son referred to is Leavenworth. I have been there in the summer but never in winter when it looks its best.
    Enjoy.

  19. It has sort of an old world European look to me. I so understand not being able to take carpeting one more minute! I'm ready to paint the plywood underneath. You were so lucky to have a good base and it is great!

  20. That's really a very clever idea! I heard it is very inexpensive too. I wonder if that can be done on a cement deck. Will it be slippery when wet?....Christine

  21. OH my gosh! As usual I look at the pictures and then read the post. I noticed the tile right off the bat and loved it. It has such beautiful, subtle colors. And then I read where it was a "happy mistake"..how very lucky of you and such good judgement to see the beauty in something that others would have overlooked.

  23. Well, you fixed that problem, and I'll bet you are so relieved! What a clever solution, and it looks great. I feel like almost every project we work on around here winds up challenging us in some way to come up with a creative solution, and often I'm just baffled! I admire your ability to come up with a perfect fix.

Thank you for stopping by my blog, I wasn't sure if you could paint right on the glass either but thought one way to find out uh? :) It worked for me, I bought Kilz chalkboard paint at Home Depot, it was around $9. I did 2 coats. Now I'm looking for more stuff I can chalk it up with. LOL.
